Learning and Teaching Committee
| Terms of Reference | |
| The Learning and Teaching Committee of the Academic Senate is responsible for working with the Provost and the Deans to establish a culture where teaching matters and students are engaged in their learning. The Learning and Teaching Committee will: | |
| 1. | Develop a culture of excellence in teaching and enhance and encourage learning. |
| 2. | Identify emerging issues, promote excellence, and encourage collaboration and the adoption of good practice in scholarly learning and teaching across the University, consistent with the University’s strategic directions. |
| 3. | Advise the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Provost) on strategic planning and quality enhancement in learning and teaching; with particular input to the Learning and Teaching Plan and relevant support plans. |
| 4. | Advise the Academic Senate and the University community on developments in learning and teaching, including the implications of changes in technology on learning and teaching. |
| 5. | Monitor the Learning and Teaching Plans of the Divisions and liaise with their Learning and Teaching Committees. |
| 6. | Provide advice to, and obtain information or reports from any Division or other academic or support unit relating to learning and teaching, including receiving regular reports from the Centre for Flexible Learning, the Centre for Professional Development, and the University Library |
| 7. | Advise the Academic Senate on the activities of bodies established to support learning and teaching. |
| 8. | Facilitate informed debate on topics/issues relevant to the Learning and Teaching Committee in the University’s pursuit of its strategic objectives. |
| 9. | Communicate with other committees of Academic Senate to ensure that duplication is avoided and University strategies are achieved. |

| Chair of the Committee
The Chair of the Learning and Teaching Committee shall be elected from within the membership. |

| Co-opted Members The Committee may co-opt additional members. The term of office of members co-opted by the Committee shall be specified at the time of co-option and such members shall have all rights and privileges of other members. The Committee has the power to establish Working Parties with membership from across the University community. |

| Observers Members of the University community may attend meetings as Observers, and are allowed, with the permission of the Chair of the Committee, to address the Committee on issues being considered by the Committee. |

| Meetings | |
| The Committee shall meet at 9.30a.m.-11.00a.m. at least five times a year. | |
| Quorum A quorum for the meeting of the Learning and Teaching Committee shall be seven. |
